Biography

A musician always in research, Jonathan Bénichou immerses himself throughout his musical career in the heritage of French and Russian pianistic schools from which he draws a personal synthesis, like his origins, of multiple culture. He is invited to perform in recital and with orchestra in France, by renowned Festivals, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine, Russia, Czechia, Poland, Moldova, Transnistria, Romania in the United States and in Colombia.
Attracted by the search for alternative musical languages, he composes the soundtracks of various short films and continues to explore new sound ideas within the framework of multidisciplinary projects. He also composes works for piano: Réminiscences, “Transmutation” Suite, La Princesse exilée, Imploration, Fantaisie, Forgotten Waltz and creates his first string quartet at the Cortot Room as part of the Freshly composed series, and Rachi Centre in Paris and Museum Chagall in Nice.
In chamber music, he plays regularly with numerous partners with whom he maintains a bond which leads him to perform in numerous groups. He continues a partnership with Hélios Azoulay and the Ensemble de musique incidentale and plays works written in the concentration camps by performing in France, Germany, Belgium and participates in radio and television broadcasts on France Musique, RFI, Arte, Mezzo, Fr2, Fr3, as well as abroad.
Always passionate about the music of his time, Jonathan Benichou created the Carpe Diem concerto by Sacha Chmykov, piano pieces by Marc-Olivier Dupin at the Auditorium du Louvre, for Virgil's Aeneid in collaboration with the Comédie-Française , the quartet for clarinet, strings and piano 'Court Studies' by Thomas Ades, or the sonata 'Le Rêve du monde' by Olivier Greif for which he collaborates on the edition with the house Symmétrie and he is invited to perform in the “Fantaisie concertante” for piano and orchestra by Thierry Escaich.
In 2022 he just recorded the Goldberg Variations by Jean Sébastien Bach published by the Calliope label. « His interpretation, of great polyphonic clarity, is supported by an approach that is both human and luminous, even joyful » Musique Classique Mag/ Pierre Tran.
In 2009, Jonathan Bénichou dedicated his first solo piano CD to the composer Alexandre Scriabin, who was rewarded with 
 5 Diapasons and a “Coup de Cœur” from the FNAC.

Released in 2003 under the Triton label, his first recording offering the Shostakovich Trio and the Olivier Greif Trio with his partners, the violinist Yan Orawiec and the cellist Dimitri Maslennikov, received 5 tuning forks, as well as the “Coup de Cœur” of the Piano magazine. « A record full of vibrant emotions, and perfectly recorded. » Piano Magazine
Very quickly noticed by his exceptional gifts, he performed from the age of 10, as a soloist, or with an Orchestra. 
After obtaining a First Prize in Piano with distinction from the jury at the Nice Conservatory, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris at the age of 14, in the class of Jacques Rouvier and obtained a First Prize with distinction Very Well, as well as the Higher Training Diploma. He then left to improve for two years at Mannes College in New York, in Pavlina Dokovska's class. Winner of several Competitions and prestigious Foundations, noticed by Mstislav Rostropovitch, he was invited to the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow by his Foundation to follow classes with Vera Gornastaeva. 
He further perfected his skills with Grigory Gruzman at the Hamburg Conservatory in Germany and also Rena Shereshevskaya at the Ecole Cortot in Paris with whom he has taken piano lessons since the age of 10.
At the same time, he received advice from Misha Katz, Aldo Ciccolini, Eteri Andjaparidze, Vladimir Feltsman, Pnina Zaltsman, Dmitri Bachkirov, Nicolai Petrov.
